What Is Botox?

Botulinum toxin is a cosmetic treatment for fine lines and wrinkles, which provides a nonsurgical option for those seeking an improved appearance.

It is a purified protein that reduces activity in the muscles on the face, reducing the appearance of frown lines on the forehead, around the eyes, and between the brows. Botulinum toxin is sometimes used as a preventative measure for reducing the look of lines and wrinkles as well as helping shape and strengthen the jawline and reduce teeth grinding.

How Does Botox Work?

Facial muscles are highly active and contract each time we show an expression. Over time, this contraction of the muscles results in the formation of lines and wrinkles, which are factors of aging skin. Botulinum toxin is a nonsurgical option for smoothing lines and wrinkles on the face. It relaxes the facial muscles that causes those deepening lines over time. The relaxed facial muscles reduce the activity of the muscles in the area where administered, leaving a smooth, youthful appearance.

How Long Does Botox Last?

Results vary for each client, but the effects of Botox treatments can last 4-5 months. A Botox session can take anywhere from 20-45 minutes, and since treatments are nonsurgical, there is usually no downtime associated. Although post-treatment instructions are very important , it can take up to 2 weeks for Botox to fully penetrate the facial muscles, and for results to show.
